Geographical Repartition of the port
|
- The first zone
Includes the area from berth 5 to berth 15 specified for combined general cargoes (imported or exported packed crops) paper rolls , sugar sacks. On berth 5.6 the general cargo vessels are operated using the appropriate equipment and sometimes with the use of lifts alongside the berth. Berth no. 9, 10, 11 are linked through a common warehouse. Berth 14, 16 can accommodate roro vessels, and their front area is wide enough to receive vessel shipments.
- The second zone
Is located between berths 16-31. This zone is allocated for the following purposes: - Reception of combined cargoes, including roro cargoes
- Passenger Terminal
- Packed bulk cargoes
- Discharge from barges
On berth 18, three roro vessels could be accommodated while bulk cargoes are received on Berth 25 and sometimes between berths 27, 28. The passenger terminal is situated in the hinterland of berths 16, 18, 22 and 24 on an 8000 mē Surface. The general cargoes are handled on berth 16, and from berth 18 to 28. As for the barge cargo handling, it is carried out on berths 30, 31 and 32 within the zone.
- The third zone
Extends from berth no. 33 to berth no.47 and hereinafter are the cargo types that can be handled within the area: - General cargoes
- Barge cargoes
- Bulk cargo (consisting of cement silos)
- Berth number 33 is used for unloading barges through mobile cranes.
There is a small open yard opposite to berth number 34. There are also concrete warehouses at this zone used to store general cargoes.
- The fourth zone
Located between berth number 50 and berth 68 cargoes handled at this zone - Containers
- Cement
- Coal
- Barges discharging
- Fertilizers / general cargoes
The terminal extends from berth 48 to 53 and consists of 525 m berths, beside that berth number 53 is located at the north end of the terminal and it is 155 m long disposed to accommodate roro vessel. The container terminal is equipped with two container cranes moving on rails , with a capacity of 35 tons as well as two cranes transporting container moving on rubber wheels used for container stowage.
Berth number 62 63 64 are used for discharging coal. The coal terminal is 480 m long, its depth varies between 10 to 9 m, and can receive either two vessels of 30000 ton dwt or 3 small vessels up to 40000 ton dwt can also be accommodated by using barges between vessels and berth . Coal can be handled by using 4 gantry cranes on rails (2 old & 2 new cranes) were introduced in 1958 & 1984. Then perform direct loading from vessels or storing yards to trains and barges . Berths number 65 66 67 are allocated for imported fertilizers.
- The fifth zone
Located between berth number 69 and berth number 85. This area is used for handling the following cargoes: - Discharging barges (Timber/grains)
- Grains
- Flow
The area between berths no. 71 and 81 is called " through the only berths specified for timber are berths no. 71, 75 of general cargo and timber vessels. Berth no. 82 is specified from grains and meal reception and packing. There is also a waiting area for trucks
There is also a little dock extended to Nobareya lock stores , used for barges discharging activities. Berth 84 is fitted with reception facilities suitable for grains . Berth no. 85 is specified for grain imports, with the existence of two suckers and also an additional silo with 100000 ton of capacity. Moreover, there exists a loading center to charge bulk grains on railways units to be transported in the country.
- The sixth zone
Oil dock
This area is located at the western side of the port. It consists of oil berths no. 87/1, 2,3,4,5,used for the reception of cooking oil, petroleum products and vessel supply services.
It includes well berth no. 86 at the end boundaries of the port allocated for living stock. Inside the port, it is not possible to store petroleum products but oil berths are linked with a sieve through 2 km long pipelines.
